"The unexamined life is not worth living."

That's what Socrates said - that pioneer of philosophy, on the forefront of knowledge. I'm not sure I've ever agreed with that quote, but I've always been fascinated by it.

What does that mean, anyway?

Does it mean that non-sentient life is devoid of worth? That mankind is wrong not to think? That ignorance should be looked down upon?

I like to think I live an examined life, but I honestly have to wonder - what exactly is an examined life? How do you know when you've reached enlightenment, of any degree... are there varying degrees? I would call myself enlightened in some respects, but now I feel as though saying such is self-deceiving. Do I have the right to speak on the matter at all? It seems like something divine, that none of us can touch. I scarcely believe it's even achievable... because seriously, how could anyone prove 'enlightenment' to another, much less themselves? It's as false and impossible as any other incarnation of Truth or perfection.

I decided a long time ago that Truth was generally relative. I also accepted the impossibility of finding true and concrete knowledge (understanding that nothing within my perception - other than my existence - can be proven or solidly believed in). In believing that I cannot attain such knowledge, I spend much of my time concerning myself with more trivial dilemmas, such as the nature of an idiom or social rule, or even the continuity of a fictional timeline... now, is my abandonment of Truth considered a rejection of enlightenment? That's not a sarcastic/rhetorical question - I honestly don't know.

Everyone seems to have taken the phrase 'unexamined life' as simply what it appears to them as. I don't personally know of a definition. How deep does your contemplation and consideration have to be, before it is worth anything? Do I have to be considering specific things, or should I just analyse whatever I wish?

I fear I've asked too many questions, so I'll leave one more: These are my thoughts on 'enlightenment' and 'the examined life' - what are yours?

Hi everyone!
I'm KoopaKrazy85, full name Koops "Krazy" Koopa - well, my online alter-ego.

Age: human equivalent of 15 (around 12 during the first war)
Height: about the height of an average human adult (plus hair)
Residence: Yoshi's Island
Diplomatic views: I support the Mushroom Kingdom
Occupation: None

Super mega long backstory:

I was born in Darkland and my father worked for King Bowser making robots. As I grew up I became fascinated with programming, and when I was a bit older I helped my Dad by programming his creations. When the koopas invaded the Mushroom Kingdom - a story we all know well - Bowser, once being a strong but just leader, was driven mad with power.

After the famous Mario Bros. arrived to save the Mushroom Kingdom, King Bowser was so enraged by the two that he sent more troops out to destroy them. Although safe in Darkland, everyone was unsettled about the war, and started to question Bowser's decisions. Though we all kept quiet about it, the issue was becoming quite prominent - the King spent so much time and resource on fueling the army that he did no longer care for citizens or their economy in the same way. We koopas were living darker, unhappier lives in a darker, unhappier empire - where once parents took children to play at the parks, those same families now lived in those parks.

I was stupid and decided to bring the issue to its source - I proposed we retreated the troops and allied ourselves with the peaceful toads. Bowser, now an unkind beast, was terribly infuriated with my idea. My cuffs and collar - the mark of any koopa - were removed and I was exiled for treason, with Bowser claiming that I was loyal to Princess Peach and not him. I traveled far from the land of my birth, to a new place to make a fresh and peaceful start, where I hoped no wars would arise.

I wanted to live in the Mushroom Kingdom, but I was shunned for what I was - a rogue koopa. Eventually I settled on Yoshis Island - the yoshis are friendly and nondiscriminatory beings, and had no part in the war with darkland. We grew to trust eachother, and now I stand as their ally.

Apart from being a Koopa, I'm your average 15 year-old. I'm actually pretty mature but I love nothing more than being childish and acting like a fool. Nothing cramps my style, because I make my style as I go. Oftentimes I make absolutely no sense, but if you know me, you'll be used to it.

Current Residence: Yoshi's Island
Favourite genre of music: Game-related
Favourite style of art: Cartoon
Favourite character: Mario
Personal Quote: Why not?
